A new vision will shape improvements in the town over the next 30 years

What should Banbury look like by 2050?   That’s the question being asked in a new consultation and engagement programme called Banbury Vision 2050, which will influence improvements in the town over the next 30 years.

A report outlining what the Vision seeks to achieve was approved at a meeting of the council’s Executive Committee last week.   The vision will help shape the important elements for a thriving Banbury, including retail, culture and tourism, the evening economy, housing, employment, and connectivity.

Local people, businesses, and visitors will soon be invited to help create the vision for Banbury town centre.

The report was presented to the meeting by Councillor Ian Corkin, who is the Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Economy.   He told Councillors engagement would help the council understand “the aspiration and ambition of Banbury residents and businesses, reaching beyond the usual consultation suspects and drawing in as wide a group as possible, so we can co-create a new, vibrant and exciting vision for 21st century Banbury”.

Councillor Colin Clarke welcomed the project, noting that members of the public often share their ideas with him for the town.   He said: “Businesses – and in particular local people – will now get an opportunity to see what the future could hold for this town.  They bamboozle me at times with all sorts of weird and wonderful ideas, but it would be really good to see some of their ideas put down on paper.”

£250,000 of funding has been requested for the project from next year’s budget.

The initial phase of consultation is expected to take place during the first quarter of 2023.

Two weeks ago Banbury FM revealed two areas of Banbury town centre were earmarked for regeneration as part of the council’s new Draft Local Plan.

I think there should be more things for kids to do instead of them hanging around local shops or causing trouble as I know we get alot of that in certain areas more youth clubs as I don’t think there is any of them anymore or more put in or more free activitys for them to get involved in to reduce them getting into wrong crowds and Any crime
