Victoria Prentis receives local Tory support to stand at next election
01/02/2023
Potential constituency changes meant Mrs Prentis had to decide which area she hoped to continue serving
Victoria Prentis will stand for the Conservative party in the Banbury constituency again at the next general election. The area’s current MP confirmed in December that she had put her name forward to Conservative Party Headquarters. She has now received the unanimous support of the North Oxfordshire Conservative Association.
Mrs Prentis holds the position of Attorney General in Rishi Sunak’s government and sat alongside the Prime Minister at Prime Minister’s Questions this lunchtime.
Constituency changes proposed by the Boundary Commission for England are likely to come into effect ahead of the next election. This will effectively split the current Banbury constituency in two with Bicester becoming a constituency in its own right.
The new Banbury constituency would cover an area from the town, across to – and including – Chipping Norton. Mrs Prentis has opted to stand for the new Banbury area should the changes be implemented.
She said: “I’m really pleased to have been re-adopted as the Conservative candidate for the Banbury constituency. We know that the next election is likely to be fought on new boundaries so it was important to sort my re-selection before candidates for the new Bicester and Woodstock constituency come forward. The timeline for their selection is yet to be confirmed by Conservative Campaign Headquarters.
“My decision to stand in Banbury was not easy; I remain committed to all my constituents across North Oxfordshire and will represent them in Parliament up until the next General Election.”
