Small businesses in King’s Sutton targeted by scammers

Fraudsters attempt to charge for Parish Council’s “free” directory listing
Small businesses in King’s Sutton have been targeted by scammers looking to take money off them for their free entry in a business listing on the village’s website.
King’s Sutton Parish Council provides the page for local businesses to promote themselves. Sixteen traders have taken advantage of a listing, which is available at no cost.
Scammers have contacted some of the people listed, telling them their entry is about to expire. In the email they are asked to select an option to confirm the company’s details are up-to-date or to select cancelling.
Those selecting the option to renew are being asked for £6 per month or £39 to cover three years.
The Kings Sutton Neighbourhood Watch team were informed about the scam and have warned people against getting caught. They said: “If you have a listing in the King’s Sutton Parish Councils FREE online Business Directory, please ignore any emails requesting payment.
“This is a scam and has nothing to do with the Parish Council.”
