Cash to celebrate the Coronation
09/02/2023
Grants are being made available to parish and town councils in the Cherwell District
Money is being made available to help people celebrate the coronation of King Charles III later this year.
Applications for grants from a pot of £45,000 can be made by town and parish councils in the Cherwell District. Its hoped the cash will encourage people to hold events to bring their community together to mark the occasion.
Local celebrations, such as street parties and gatherings, can be held during April, May and June. King Charles III’s official coronation will take place during the weekend of May 6.
Grant amounts will be awarded based on the size of the parish or ward and the nature of the proposed event. Money can be used for equipment, venue hire, entertainment, insurance and promotion to ensure events are open and accessible to all members of the local community.
Cherwell District Council is organising the grant scheme. Councillor Phil Chapman, Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities, said: “The coronation will be a first and historic occasion for many of our residents and it is a great opportunity for communities to enjoy a time of festivity.
“Whether a small gathering or big street party we encourage parish authorities to take advantage of the fund and give their communities the opportunity to celebrate the coronation in their own unique way.”
