15-mile road race runners in Banbury this Sunday
17/03/2023
The annual road race starts and finishes at Spiceball Park
Runners from across the country will be heading to Banbury this weekend for the Geoff Smith’s Banbury 15 Mile Road Race. The run is organised by Banbury Harriers Athletics Club and will set off from Spiceball Park on Sunday morning at around 10.30am.
The route takes runners from the park using the town’s pavements to head northwards out of Banbury on the Southam Road towards The Bourtons. From here the rural road route takes in Cropredy, Appletree and Claydon before looping back to Banbury and the finish line in Spiceball Park.
The Banbury 15 is named after former Banbury Harrier athlete Geoff Smith who died in 2015. The race was Mr Smith’s brainchild.
James Bolton from Woodstock Harriers won the race last year, completing the course in 1 hour 23 minutes and 57 seconds.
For those wanting something a little less challenging the Paul Bithell memorial fun run has a choice of 1 or 2 miles utilising a route around Spiceball Park. The fun run is named after a former editor of the Banbury Guardian newspaper.
