Skirts will stay as school backs down

A school survey showed the majority were strongly against the removal of skirts from uniform policy
The Warriner School has backed down over proposed changes to the school’s uniform which would have seen the banning of skirts being worn from this September. In a letter sent to parents this afternoon (Friday) the school’s Executive Headteacher Dr Annabel Kay said that following a consultation they would not be making any changes.
The school thanked all those who had responded to their recent survey, including parents, students, staff and governors. The results showed the majority were strongly against the removal of skirts from uniform policy.
Dr Kay said: “As a result of this consultation, we will not make any changes to girls’ uniform in September 2023. Instead, we will continue to work with the student council to consider a range of skirt styles and designs. We will then consult with you on those options. Any changes that we agree as a community will be phased.”
Warriner School hit the headlines in February when a new gender-neutral uniform policy was announced which banned skirts being worn. The morning after the announcement a number of students protested outside their classrooms. The police were called to the Bloxham based school, which was then closed on the advice of the police.
Dr Kay subsequently wrote to parents, apologising and saying they would engage further on their proposed new uniform policy.
