Car fire causes southbound delays on the M40
12/04/2023
One lane past the scene was back open at 1pm
An earlier car fire on the M40 has been causing problems for drivers this lunchtime (Wednesday).
The fire happened on the southbound carriageway between the Cherwell Valley Services at junction 10 and junction 9 for Bicester.
The whole southbound carriageway was closed whilst the emergency services dealt with the situation.
Just before 1pm the Highways Agency said that one of the three lanes had reopened, but warned there are still long delays of around 45 minutes to pass the scene, with a four mile queue.
