Fun after school sessions and squad girls’ football begin in May

Two new free initiatives for young people are about to get underway in Banbury thanks to funding secured by Banbury United Football Club from The National League Trust.

After-school fun sessions for 4-11 year olds will begin on May 3, running every Wednesday until the school summer holidays at The Hill Youth and Community Centre in Bretch Hill.   Fitness and Wellness coach Sindy Matthews will lead the sessions, which will include family activities, from learning archery to playing Stuck in The Mud.   The sessions will run from 4-5pm.

Meanwhile, Squad Girls’ Football, for girls aged 12-14 who want to get into the game, will also begin on Monday evenings at the North Oxfordshire Academy.   The programme has been created by England Football, supported by Sport England, and is designed to help girls improve their abilities.  Banbury United’s women’s coach, Mark Andrews, will run the free weekly session between 5 and 6pm.   The first one starts on May 15th.

There is no need to book for either activity, just turn up.

Banbury United’s board director with responsibility for the community, Lisa Dixon, said: “It’s great news that we can put on these free after-school sessions for primary school-aged children and their families, as well as getting girls into football. We can’t wait to get going.

“We are incredibly grateful to The National League Trust for funding this and other community programmes that we’re increasingly able to deliver as a club. There is a direct correlation between the success of our teams on the pitch – particularly our promotion to the National League North this season – and our ability to support the Banbury community,”
