20/04/2023
The car had been stolen from Newbury
A driver was caught in a stolen car at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour on the M40 near Banbury last night. The vehicle has been taken from Newbury in a keyless theft.
Local police in West Berkshire had been unable to locate the Peugeot 308 GTI.
The vehicle was then spotted by the police Auto-Number Plate Recognition team travelling up the A34, having had its number plates changed.
When it joined the northbound M40, a number of police vehicles surrounded the vehicle, boxing it in as it travelled at more than 30 miles per hour over the legal speed limit near Banbury. After a slight collision with one of the police’s unmarked vehicles the stolen car was brought to an abrupt halt.
The driver was locked inside the vehicle, so police were forced to smash a window to gain access to the individual, who was taken into custody.
