No photo ID?  Time is running out to ensure you can vote next week

24/04/2023

The deadline for applications for a Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm on Tuesday

Anyone wanting to cast a vote at the Local Elections next week will need photo ID.   For those without any accepted form of photo ID, there’s just two days left to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

The deadline for applications is 5pm tomorrow (Tuesday).

New rules mean you will no longer be able to simply turn up at the Polling Station on the day.   A valid form of identification must be shown before you will be given access to a polling booth.   The new requirement is in place across the country.

The following photo ID will be accepted at polling stations:

  • A passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, a European Economic Area (EEA) state or a Commonwealth country
  • Photographic drivers licence (full or provisional) issued by the UK, Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or an EEA state
  • EEA photographic ID card
  • UK Biometric Residence Permit
  • An identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (PASS card)
  • A blue badge
  • Oyster 60+ card
  • A concessionary travel pass funded by HM Government or local authority, such as Oxfordshire County Council Bus pass, disabled persons bus pass, Welsh or Northern Ireland travel card.

Anyone needing to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate can do so here.

One third of the seats on Cherwell District Council will be decided next Thursday (May 4).   Currently the Conservatives have a two seat majority on the Council and will be working hard to secure enough votes to maintain or improve that position.   At the same time the opposition parties realise they go into this election closer to taking control at Cherwell than at any point in recent years.
