Four days of activities raised £1,229

Staff and customers at Morrisons in Banbury smashed their fundraising target for a local charity at the weekend.   During four days of activities £1,229.13 was collected for the Helen and Douglas House Hospice.   The team had set a target of £1,000 to achieve.

A key focus of the event was a challenge to complete a Coronation cycle ride of 330 kilometres – the distance from Morrison’s head office in Bradford to Buckingham Palace.  By the end of Sunday they had peddled way past the Palace, riding 376 kilometres.

The challenge was particularly poignant for Counters Team Leader Aaron Anderson, for whom Helen and Douglas House is a charity close to his heart.   Mr Anderson sadly lost his son, who had been in the hospice.

Amongst a number of attractions lined up for customers alongside the cycling challenge, General Manager Michael Turner volunteering to be soaked in the stocks proved particularly popular.

Mandy Merry, Morrison’s Community Champion, said: “It went amazingly well!   Thanks to Wacky Wardrobes who lent us the stocks to soak the boss and to PureGym for loaning us two bikes.

“And thanks to everyone who helped to make this a fantastic amount raised.”
