Fun and fund raising are a couple of the new mayor’s aims

Brackley has a new Town Mayor.   Councillor Sue Sharps took on the role at the Mayor Making ceremony in Brackley Town Hall on Saturday.

Councillor Sharps takes over the role from Councillor Paul Wiltshire.   Councillor Elaine Wiltshire was elected as Deputy Town Mayor.

Councillor Sharps said: “My aim is to raise money for two local charities, but most of all I hope everyone has fun.

“We are raising money for youth – for South Northants Youth Engagement and youth clubs in Brackley – and Brackley Food Bank – both very deserving charites.”

A Pottery Workshop for Father’s Day is amongst Councillor Sharps first fundraisers.   It will be run by Panda Pottery at the old Fire Station Community Hall on June 18 from 1 until 2.15pm and between 2.30 and 3.45pm.   Bookings can be made by emailing hello@potterypanda.co.uk.

Other events include Mayor’s Bingo on May 28 in the Town Hall and a Coffee Morning on June 9.

At the end of his year the outgoing mayor Councillor Paul Wiltshire presented representatives from Medical Detection Dogs and The Air Ambulance Service with cheques totalling £8,400 – money he had fund raised during his year of wearing the chains of office.
