350 bales of straw involved in barn blaze
17/05/2023
Local people can expect to see smoke from the scene for the next 72 hours
Around 350 bales of straw went up in flames when a barn on the Warkworth Road in Middleton Cheney caught fire on Tuesday evening (May 16).
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service were first called just after 10.30pm.
Fire engines from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and a fire officer from Northamptonshire, were first on the scene. They found a steel barn and its contents fully on fire.
Residents in Overthorpe and Warkworth were advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to large volumes of smoke.
The Oxfordshire crews left the scene when a crew from Brackley arrived. The decision was taken to allow the fire to burn under control of the fire service and the landowner.
A spokesperson for Northants Fire and Rescue said: “We anticipate that residents will continue to see smoke in the area for the next 72 hours while the burn continues, and we would recommend residents continue to keep windows and doors shut throughout as a precaution.
“Once the fire is out, an investigation will take place to determine the cause.”
