E-scooters banned at Banbury train station and on Chiltern trains

12/06/2023

Fire safety concerns have led to the decision

E-scooters are no longer allowed inside Banbury train station or on Chiltern train services.   A ban has come into force today over fire safety risks.

Chiltern says, like most UK train operators, they have chosen to ban e-scooters in response to concerns that the lithium batteries e-scooters use may catch fire.   Severe overheating associated with faulty or unregulated lithium batteries can lead to devices igniting and expelling toxic fumes.

The train operator will still allow non-electric scooters in the station and on-board, as well as mobility scooters and aids, but these must comply with their mobility scooter guidance.

Electric bikes can also be taken on board, but they mustn’t be charged on the train or at the station.
