Kenco centenary climb will test Sportive cyclists’ stamina
15/06/2023
The average gradient on Whichford Hill is 6.1%
We’re now just three weeks away from this year’s Broughton Castle Sportive. The annual cycling challenge on Sunday July 9 is organised by the Rotary Club of Banbury Cherwell and is now in its 12th year.
A new challenge will face riders on the 100, 75 and 50 mile routes, thanks to a deal with Kenco Coffee, who are celebrating their centenary this year.
Riders will be able to try and obtain the fastest time ascending the “Kenco Centenary Climb” – the renamed Whichford Hill Climb between Hook Norton and Whichford. This testing section has a height gain of 102 metres and an average gradient of 6.1%, but double that in places.
The start and finish of the climb will be identified by two giant “Kenco Coffee Jars” alongside the standard signing. The rider with the most competitive time will be presented with a celebratory prize at a Presentation Night at Broughton Castle during August.
Anyone wishing to take part can still sign-up for the Sportive, with a 20 mile route and 5.5 mile Family Fun Ride also on offer.
