Burglar jailed after being spotted trying door handles

Anthony Chilton had stolen property and cannabis on him when he was caught by officers
A Banbury man has been sent to prison for burglary after he was spotted trying door handles and entering properties.
Thirty-seven year old Anthony Chilton of Orchard Way targeted a number of addresses in Hardwick Park, Cheviot Way, Barcombe Close and Sussex Drive in Banbury, during the early hours of May 17 this year.
Despite reports in four different places, only one location had property stolen. Officers found Chilton close to one of the addresses. He attempted to get away but was quickly apprehended.
Chilton was found to have stolen property and cannabis on him.
At Oxford Crown Court on Friday (June 23) Chilton pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary in a dwelling and a further count of possession of cannabis.
He was sentenced to three years in prison.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Owen Farniss, of the Banbury Priority Crime Team, said: “Burglary is an impactful offence that not only puts people at loss of possessions and finances, but can also impact their feelings of safety and security in their homes.
“Offences such as these will not be tolerated by Thames Valley Police and I am pleased that Chilton has received such a sentence for these offences.
“I hope he will use his time in custody to reflect upon his actions.”
