MP Victoria Prentis hosted the event at Banbury Town Hall

Representatives from a number of local charities met with Banbury’s MP Victoria Prentis for a Charity Lunch last Friday.   Twelve organisations were represented at the event, which was held at Banbury Town Hall.

The aim of the Charity Lunch was to allow the charities to network and discuss shared challenges.

Speakers at the lunch included representatives from Cherwell District Council, The National Lottery Community Fund, Community First Oxfordshire and Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action.   They told the charities about some of the ways they could support them.

Mrs Prentis said: “Charities and voluntary organisations are the lifeblood of our communities and do so much to ensure the most vulnerable feel safe, supported and reassured.

“Although the £100m committed by the Chancellor at the Spring Budget to help them deliver their services in what are really challenging times was very much welcomed, it is important that the Government continues to maintain support for the third sector.

“I will be working closely with my Ministerial colleagues to ensure this is the case.”

The charities represented at the Charity Lunch were Katharine House Hospice, Adoption UK, OYAP Trust, The Sunshine Centre, Assisted Reading for Children, Child Brain Injury Trust, The Sunrise Centre, Nai’s House, Banbury Museum, Tooley’s Boatyard, Oxfordshire MIND and The Hummingbird Centre.

The Charity Commission records over 300 registered charities in and around Banbury.    Those invited to last week’s event represent the charities local people have the most interaction with and which represent the largest groups.
