Engineering works and industrial action create the perfect storm for Banbury train users
28/07/2023
Buses will replace many trains with the west side car park closed to facilitate this
Train users are being warned that they face delays, longer journeys and busier trains than usual over the next week. A combination of engineering works and industrial action are to blame.
Those driving to Banbury train station should also be aware of the closure of the west side car park, next to Station Approach.
Major engineering works will take place in the Banbury, Oxford and Bicester areas next week, with Network Rail upgrading critical parts of the railway infrastructure. Rail replacement buses will be operating between Bicester, Banbury and Leamington Spa from tomorrow until Saturday August 4.
Elsewhere a major project to upgrade Oxford station with a new platform and western entrance has resulted in no trains being able to run to or from Oxford. Another fleet of replacement buses will be covering this route.
To facilitate the bus replacement service the Banbury station west side car park will be closed. Customers are advised to instead use the east side multi-storey car park, off Higham Way.
In addition to the engineering works industrial action by members of the RMT union will affect services tomorrow (Saturday) and further action by members of ASLEF means less drivers will be available from Monday (July 31) to Saturday (August 5).
