Refuse vehicles to display primary school recycling designs

The competition was created to mark the 20th anniversary of Cherwell’s kerbside recycling service
Youngsters from Christopher Rawlins School in Adderbury and Southwold Primary School in Bicester have won a competition to design a panel for two of Cherwell District Council’s refuse vehicles. The competition was launched in February to mark the upcoming 20th anniversary of the Council’s kerbside recycling service.
The two winning designs will now be transformed into panel designs and fitted onto the vehicles over the summer. They will be unveiled at an official ceremony in the early autumn.
The competition saw over 100 designs submitted from primary schools across the district. The challenge had a theme of ‘let’s celebrate recycling’.
Councillor Andrew McHugh, Portfolio Holder for Cleaner and Greener Communities, said: “We were thrilled to receive a high number of entries for this competition and absolutely enjoyed looking through the brilliant designs that were submitted. Our younger residents in the district have a clear passion for environmental sustainability, a key commitment for Cherwell District Council.
“It was a pleasure to see how the continued and innovative work our waste and recycling team has been carrying out since kerbside recycling was introduced has inspired our school children to become so invested in reducing, reusing and recycling.”
An entry from Dashwood Banbury Academy was one of four other submissions which were commended.
The kerbside recycling service in Cherwell reaches its 20th anniversary this Friday (August 18).
