Homes include at least 30% affordable with 17 two-beds in plans

36 new homes have been approved for land to the northern side of Dukes Meadow Drive on the Hanwell Fields estate. At least 30 per cent of the houses will be classed as affordable.

Cherwell District Council’s planning committee approved the application last week.

The 36 new builds will contribute to the delivery of over 500 homes on the site which is identified on the Local Plan as Banbury 5.   In total over 1,100 homes will be provided on the north-west edge of Banbury.

Councillor Colin Clarke, Lead Member for Planning, said: “The area covered by this planning application is part of a larger, 26-hectare site that we have long sought to deliver new homes on. It is situated well for access to nearby shops, supermarkets and places of work.

“These 36 new homes will follow the design code of the earlier developments to the north and north-east of the site. That means it will form a high quality and sensitive approach to the urban edge, preserving key natural features of the site.”

The site layout includes an area of semi-natural open public space. The council has been working with the applicant to improve the links with surrounding land, relationships with neighbouring developments, and to protect trees and hedgerows on the edges of the site.

There would be a mixture of house sizes across the site, including 17 two-bed homes.
