Reminder of free electric blanket safety checks

30/08/2023

Booking is essential for the testing sessions on September 20 and October 4

We’re being reminded that free electric blanket checks are available in our area ahead of the weather turning colder this autumn.

Oxfordshire County Council organises the tests annually to make sure users are both safe and warm during the winter months.

The tests are an important safety check, with around 30 percent failing each year.

The team undertaking the tests will be visiting the Cherwell District area on September 20 and October 4.

Shelley Edwards, Senior Community Engagement Officer for Oxfordshire County Council’s trading standards team, explained why electric blankets should be tested.   She said: “If the condition of a blanket is allowed to deteriorate there is the possibility it could become faulty, risking injury and fire.

“We want to ensure that electric blankets are still safe for use. So, come along and encourage any elderly neighbours to attend too. It is better to be safe than sorry.

“The tests are free, as are the refreshments but remember to pre-book!”
