Parkrun’s return delayed to July 24
15/06/2021
Popular weekly run in Spiceball Park must now wait to resume following Prime Minister’s statement
The anticipated restart of the popular Saturday morning Banbury Parkrun has been put back. It had been hoped it could resume on June 26.
The news follows last night’s announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the postponement of moving to Step 4 COVID restrictions. The further lifting of lockdown rules now won’t happen until July the 19th.
Parkrun’s national organisers said that in a number of areas agreement to use the local land was dependant on moving to Step 4. As this hasn’t happened they have advised local groups they now intend to restart on the penultimate Saturday in July.
They said: “A huge amount of work has been done in recent weeks to ensure we have permission to return from the large majority of landowners. Whilst this delay is disappointing, we respect the fact that a significant number of these permissions were contingent on the country moving into Step 4, and we will therefore target a new reopening date of Saturday 24 July.”
Banbury’s Parkrun normally takes place in Spiceball Park. Responding to the news on social media last night the organisers said: “Everyone in the Core Team is disappointed, as we know you will be too at the outcome, but let’s hope that we really will be back at the end of July!
“Stay safe everyone.”
