Some concessions for Edmunds Road residents frustrated by parking restrictions
12/09/2023
Councillors have championed the issue following a petition by local people
A section of double yellow lining on Edmunds Road on the Bretch Hill estate is being removed to ease problems for frustrated residents who can’t find anywhere to leave their cars.
Currently parking is not permitted at any time along much of Edmunds Road, but following a request from local people Oxfordshire County Council has agreed to remove restrictions in two areas.
Local resident Wellington Muzondo has campaigned for extra parking. He said: “We used to be able to park at the back of our houses, but now that area has been closed off by the Housing Association.
“This left very few places to park. Some people have been receiving parking tickets as they’ve had no choice as to where to leave their car.”
Local County Councillors Mark Cherry and Amanda Watkins held several meetings with those living on the road about the problems they were having. Highways officers also visited the site to assess what could be done.
Last week Councillor Andrew Gant, the County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highway Management, agreed to remove the double yellow lining in two places, to ease the problem.
This will create an on-street parking option on an 11-metre section opposite numbers 80 and 78 Edmunds Road. Another 5-metre section will be created outside number 37.
Mr Muzondo said: “From the moment we put in our petition the Councillors have visited us and talked about the problem. They worked hard to find a solution.
“Its not enough though, but it is a start. We’ll continue to put pressure on to address the issue.”
