Final day of trading at Banbury’s Wilko
14/09/2023
The store is one of 52 closing this week
Today (Thursday) is the final day of trading for Banbury’s Wilko store on Bridge Street.
It is one of 52 stores closing this week after the company’s administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers said that no interest had been shown in the sites by any potential purchasers of the Wilko store portfolio.
Across the 52 stores 1,016 jobs are being lost.
Elsewhere in the country up to 71 of the Wilko stores are likely to become Poundland stores if the Pepco Group finalises its option to acquire the sites. B&M has an option to acquire up to 51 properties after the administration trading period has concluded at those stores.
Last week a shop worker at the Banbury store told Banbury FM things had changed since COVID-19. She said: “We used to be really busy, but it all changed after the pandemic. People weren’t coming in any more.”
