Odeon reopens on Thursday
23/06/2021
Fast and Furious 9 will be shown as the projectors roll once again
Film lovers can catch some big screen action locally again from tomorrow (Thursday).
The Odeon Cinema on Banbury’s Horsefair has confirmed to Banbury FM it is reopening its doors for the first time since lockdown began at the start of the year. The two films scheduled to be shown are Fast and Furious 9 in screen 1 and In The Heights in screen 2.
A spokesperson said: “We’ve been delighted to be able to reopen ODEON Banbury in time for the summer blockbusters, with tickets now on sale for F9 from this Thursday and Marvel’s Black Widow from 7th July.
“Banbury is an important pillar of the local community, and our team has worked hard to ensure it is safe to welcome guests back to experience the joy of the big screen once again.”
The Odeon group reopened most of their other venues across the country in May, but the Banbury site had remained closed.
Banbury’s Odeon was originally called The Regal and opened on 7th October 1940. Inside the auditorium, seating was provided for 897 people in stalls and circle levels. Under new owners it was re-named The Essoldo in 1956. The Classic Cinemas chain took over in 1972 and spit the venue into two screens, with screen 1 in the former stalls and screen 2 in the former circle.
In 1986 the Classic became Cannon and ten years later it was renamed the ABC. Odeon took over and re-named the cinema Odeon in October 2001.
