Bench vandalised just days after being put back in place

King Sutton villagers shocked and upset after memorial bench in memory of long-standing villager targeted
A memorial bench in Kings Sutton has been ripped out of the ground just days after it had been set in a cement base to secure it following an earlier incident. Villagers woke this morning to discover the act of vandalism on their Recreation Ground.
Steps had been taken to give the bench a fixed base after it had been wrenched out of its old footings. Just five days ago the bench was set in its new foundations. This morning both the bench and foundations had been uprooted again.
The incident has now been reported to the police. It is believed the damage occurred between late last night and 6.30am this morning.
The bench is one of a number of memorial benches in King Sutton. It was placed in memory of a long-standing resident, Barbara Monks.
A few days ago the back panel and arm rest of another bench on the Recreation Ground was ripped off. This has led one Parish Councillor to suggest they may need to take steps to protect the area.
Adrian Barry runs the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme and sits on the Parish Council. He said: “We are going to look at installing security cameras now, which is sad.
“I think residents will be disgusted. It’s really upsetting for people. It’s a memorial bench, not just a generic bench on a field.
“I think we’re all, as a community, quite upset that it’s happened again.”
