Walkers to set off in aid of Hospice on Saturday
16/07/2021
A choice of two different routes and a chance to remember a loved one are included in this year’s Not The Midnight Walk
The Katharine House Hospice’s first in-person event in over a year gets underway tomorrow. The Not The Midnight Walk returns in an amended format after the popular late evening fund raiser was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
Sign-up for the event closed last night, with over 220 walkers due to set off from the Rugby Club after 2pm tomorrow afternoon. A virtual event will run alongside the main walk for those who aren’t yet happy to head back out with other people.
Those taking part at the Rugby Club will join in with one of two routes – a 6 mile town route and a 10 mile country route. Both walks will offer those taking part the opportunity to remember a loved one and for the first time the those on the 10 mile route will visit the Hospice itself.
Cherida Plumb, Community & Events Fundraising Manager at the Hospice, said: “We’ve always wanted to come up to the Hospice. It’s a place that means something to people.
“We’ll have a memory tree on site. People will be able to have a piece of ribbon and write a message on it, then tie it to the tree.”
A number of the volunteers who have helped with the event in the past will be turning out again this year, joined by some new faces and groups from RAF Croughton and TSB in Banbury.
Cherida says the Hospice team are looking forward to things getting underway: “We’re really excited about it. We can’t wait to meet our supporters and volunteers face to face.”
As walkers complete their route they will be given an ice cream or a glass of fizz. People are invited to bring along picnics to make the most of the event.
As part of the walk everyone participating is being encouraged to join in with a special one-off clap for carers at 8 tomorrow evening to thank all our local medical staff, including those at the Hospice, for everything they have done during the pandemic.
