25/10/2023
The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious
A man in his eighties has lost his life in the Oxford Canal in Banbury. Thames Valley Police were called to reports of a body in the water at just after 3.30pm on Tuesday (October 24).
The man’s body was recovered but, sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been made aware.
Police say the man’s death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
During the incident a section of the canal was closed alongside the Southam Road, from a point north of Hennef Way as far as the southern side of the industrial units on Noral Way, by the Grimsbury Woodland Nature Reserve.
The canal is now back open.

How very sad. Did he just fall in? That tow path is dangerous around there. My thoughts are with his family.
