Urgent call to find missing Grimsbury defibrillator
27/10/2023
Lives could be at risk if the unit isn’t quickly returned
An urgent call has been made for the return of a life-saving defibrillator which hasn’t been seen since it was taken for an emergency last weekend. Its feared other people’s lives may now be at risk unless the equipment is quickly taken back.
The defibrillator is normally housed at The Bell on Middleton Road in Grimsbury. It was taken out as a precaution under the instruction of the ambulance service at 4.10pm on Saturday (October 21). The people taking the unit confirmed they would return it, but haven’t so far.
Defibrillator’s work by shocking a person’s heart back into action after they have suffered a cardiac arrest. The vital minutes gained between using a defibrillator and the emergency services arriving can make the difference between life and death.
Local charity Do It For Defib purchased and installed the missing unit in July 2022 as part of their rollout of bringing the vital medical equipment close to the communities who may need it.
Charlotte Pickwick from the charity said: “Luckily the patient did not require this life saving piece of equipment, but unfortunately to date, it has not been returned by the people who were helping the patient.
“We are desperate to get it back in the cabinet so it’s ready for someone else.”
Anyone who can help locate the defibrillator is asked to contact Charlotte by emailing contact@doitfordefib.org.uk or calling 07867690321. The charity’s details can also be found on the unit.
