Ian Foster extends contract as New Zealand head coach through to 2023 World Cup

He took charge of the All Blacks back in 2019

New Zealand head coach Ian Foster has been reappointed up until the end of the 2023 World Cup.

Foster took charge of the All Blacks in 2019 after eight years as an assistant coach to the side.

New Zealand Rugby has confirmed the contract extension, with chief executive Mark Robinson saying the continuity will provide clarity and certainty in the coming two years.

Crusaders coach Scott Robinson had been another potential contender for the job.

Robinson said: “There is no doubt Foz and his team are performing extremely well in trying conditions and we are pleased to send a strong signal of support to create certainty in our environment and allow the management team and player group to plan for the future.”

Foster said: “I want to acknowledge the board and NZR for the faith they have shown in reappointing me. It’s a privilege to be part of the All Blacks and I don’t take that for granted.”
