Local labour leader not impressed former PM back in government

Sean Woodcock says the move is “insulting”

The former Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron has made a return to government, taking on the role of Foreign Secretary.

Mr Cameron has been appointed by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak following the sacking of Suella Braverman.

But locally the move has been criticised by the leader of the Labour Group at Cherwell District Council.

Sean Woodcock, who’s put his own name forward to represent Labour in Banbury at the next General Election, says the move shows the depth of the hole that the Conservative Party are in.

He said: “The former Member of Parliament for Witney, including Chipping Norton, presided over the most dramatic and intense period of austerity we have witnessed. This saw youth centres and libraries close, police numbers cut and defence spending reviews that saw Britain’s place in the world severely downgraded.

“He also brought about the Brexit referendum that divided our country and then ran off leaving others to clean up the mess.

“His behaviour since leaving office, including the Greensill lobbying scandal, have showed us who he really is.

“It is frankly insulting that he can waltz back onto the national stage as part of another Conservative Party psychodrama.”

Councillor Woodcock concluded: “The country doesn’t need any more reshuffles. What it needs is a Labour government.”

” Because I think I would be rather good at it”.

Cameron, Johnson.Entitled Old Etonians who have wreaked havoc on this country during this past 13 years. It says something about the Tory Party that not one current MP is deemed by our unelected PM to be appointed Foreign Secretary..
