Banbury United board act after striker was convicted of a drug supply offence in Oxford

Banbury United have suspended Henry Landers for 14 days after he was given a 14-month suspended prison sentence for a drug supply offence in Oxford.   The club say that during this time they will consider the matter further and make another announcement in due course.

21 year old Landers plays as a striker for Banbury United’s first team.

On Wednesday Landers, of Cranley Road in Oxford, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to supply a class A drug, namely cocaine, in a hearing at Oxford Crown Court.   He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years, ordered to complete 41 rehabilitation days and pay £1,000 in costs.

A statement from the Banbury United board said: “Yesterday morning we became aware of Henry Landers court case and sentence as reported in the media.

“The club have taken the action to suspend Henry for 14 days, and therefore he will not travel with the Squad to Nantwich.

“During this time the club will consider the matter further and will make another announcement in due course.”

    While I don’t know all the details I do not think he should remain at the club. This is no example to set before the clubs supporters, especially the younger ones. Do not let his ability stand in the way of the right decision.
