Brackley Players present Alan Ayckbourn’s black comedy Neighbourhood Watch, from Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 October at Southfield Primary Academy in Brackley.

When Martin Massie and his sister Hilda move onto the Bluebell Hill Development, they find their suburban dream is threatened by petty crime and vandalism. With the help of a motley assortment of neighbours, and the firm belief that the forces of law and order – and indeed God himself – are on their side, they decide to take action. But the dangers of taking the law into your hands soon become apparent, as events spiral out of control, with darkly hilarious consequences.

The cast of eight have been rehearsing for the last two months to bring this play to the stage, marking the group’s return to live performance after the pandemic. Neighbourhood Watch is directed by Jim Howson, who has previously directed Gaslight and Abigail’s Party for Brackley Players, as well as acting in many of their productions over the past 13 years.

Director Jim Howson commented: “Ayckbourn’s comedies are all about the characters, and the cast are doing a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life in this hilarious cautionary tale.”

Josh Ryan takes the role of Martin Massie, with Amanda Howson as his sister Hilda. Their neighbours Gareth and Amy Janner, are played by Scott and Lisa Saffrey respectively, Luther and Magda Bradley by Ted Webb and Abigail Jeffs, with Dave Toman as Rod and Fran Hollyoake as Dorothy.

Neighbourhood Watch will be performed at 7.30pm on from Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 October at Southfield Primary Academy, Banbury Road, Brackley, NN13 6AU. Tickets are £10 for adults and £8 for concessions and can be bought in person from the Old Hall Bookshop in Brackley or by ringing Keith on 07516 408897.
