17/10/2021
Andy Whing’s team delighted fans with a fourth qualifying round win taking them into the FA Cup for the second year running
Banbury United have drawn a home game against Football League 2 side Barrow AFC in the first round of the FA Cup.
This is the second year Andy Whing’s team have made it through to the first round. Prior to that the club last made it to the first round in 1973.
A win would set a new record for the Puritans.
Today’s draw followed a win for Banbury in yesterday’s fourth qualifying round game against Bath City. A massive crowd of 1,535 watched the Puritans win the match after Kelvin Langmead scored the game’s only goal on 45 minutes, leaving Banbury 1-0 winners.
Meanwhile Brackley Town must play Guiseley again after yesterday’s game finished a 1-1 draw at St James Park. Should the Saints win their replay on Tuesday evening at Nethermoor Park they will travel away to face League 1 side AFC Wimbledon.
Oxford United enter the FA Cup at this stage and they will play Bristol Rovers at the Kassam Stadium.
All the games are scheduled to be played on Saturday November 6th.
80 clubs were in the hat for the draw which sees the road to Wembley begin for the League 1 and 2 clubs, joining those who have qualified.
