Deddington Fair returns
17/11/2021
The tradition of a fair in the village dates back hundreds of years
Deddington Fair has arrived in the village today. The rides and attractions have been setting up in the Market Place.
The fair returns this year after a year away during 2020 due to the pandemic.
The small fair is operated by Hatwells and includes a few of rides each for younger and older children and a number of side shows.
The tradition of the fair in Deddington dates back hundreds of years and was original known as the “Pudding Pie Fair” or “Pud ‘n’ Pie Fair”. The event appears to be linked to a local dish – a Deddington pudding-pie – which was made from a baked hard pastry case with a filling that included fruit.
Although Deddington Pudding Pies don’t appear to have been made in the village since Wallins the Bakers closed in 1989, the fair is still going strong.
Deddington Fair will run from 5pm on Thursday and Friday and 1pm on Saturday.
