The search for Oxfordshire’s Climate Action Heroes

Awards will celebrate those in the county at the forefront of the climate battle

Do you know someone who is a local climate action hero?   Nominations are being sought for people and community groups at the forefront of the climate battle in Oxfordshire so they can be recognised by the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, Imam Monawar Hussain.

The High Sheriff’s new Climate Action Heroes Awards build on previous awards during 2021 that celebrated Oxfordshire’s COVID-19 heroes.

Imam Hussain said: “During my first year in the role as high sheriff, I have been dedicating time to thanking and celebrating Oxfordshire’s heroes – individuals and voluntary groups from all walks of life who have made exceptional contributions to their communities across the county.

“The climate emergency is the single biggest issue we are facing as a society. I would like to take the opportunity to recognise and celebrate those groups and individuals who have made a real difference and contributed to climate action in Oxfordshire.

“I hope to recognise people from all walks of life – young people, community groups, local businesses and beyond – anybody who has made an impact or inspired others to make a change themselves.”

The awards judging panel will consist of experts in the climate action field who will have some discretion to award some of the winners small grants to further their projects.  These funds will be reserved for successful non-profit groups or organisations in the categories for community action, social enterprise and young people/schools.

Nominations can be submitted using an online form. The deadline for nominations is 31 December 2021 and a list of winners will be announced mid-January 2022.
