Lantern parade, lights and Christmas market will launch festivities in Brackley
26/11/2021
Around 400 lanterns will parade to the Piazza before the Town Mayor turns the lights on
Brackley’s Christmas lights are set to be switched on tomorrow afternoon (November 27) at an event which is expected to bring hundreds of people into the town centre. A Christmas Market and Lantern Parade will precede the Town Mayor, Councillor Don Thompson, illuminating the town at 5.30pm.
Preparations for the day have been underway during the last few weeks with a number of lantern making workshops held at the Old Fire Station. Around 180 children took part and additional lantern kits have also been sold by the town council.
It is expected that around 400 lanterns will join the parade of around 1000 people, led by Father Christmas, which will make its way from the St John’s site car park at Magdalen College School to the Piazza and Town Hall. The parade is due to set off at 5.15pm.
The event starts with a Christmas Market at 3pm. For the first time a number of sellers will setting on the Piazza with craft stalls, home goods and festive gifts all included.
Georgia Connor from Brackley Town Council is looking forward to a great afternoon which follows in the footsteps of other recent successful events. She said: “We’ve had such an amazing response with Party In The Park and the Fireworks.
“I feel that Christmas events are all about the children and they missed out last year, so it will be really nice for everyone to join up again together.”
