As booster rollout accelerates concerns over availability locally
13/12/2021
Locations offered included Kidlington, Oxford, Towcester and Northampton with nothing locally
A growing number of people have been questioning why they have been unable to receive a COVID vaccination locally in North Oxfordshire.
Last night Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that he was accelerating the programme to enable everyone to have a booster jab, bringing forward the target completion date from the end of January to the end of this month.
Before the announcement, last week anyone booking a booster was being offered locations such as Kidlington, Oxford, Towcester and Northampton, with nothing available locally. Following last night’s address to the nation, the NHS booking system has today been placing people in a queuing system for access to book a slot.
On Sunday long queues formed at the Edmonds Road car park in Banbury as rumours spread via social media that a grab-a-jab clinic was in town. The booster vaccination session appears to have only been advertised via a sponsored message on Facebook and was vastly over-subscribed. The online advert promoted the session running from 10am until midday but closed shortly after 11am when doses of the vaccine ran out.
Writing on Twitter a message was posted stating that another session had been organised for the week commencing Monday December 20.
Banbury FM contacted the Oxfordshire Clinical Care Commissioning Group last week asking why no local vaccination centres were being made available. Our request has been acknowledged but we are yet to receive a full response.
