Ruscote residents want the council to address neglected areas of their estate

Concerns were raised at a community forum last year

Residents of a Banbury estate, who are unhappy with the condition of the area where they live, have met with councillors and officers and their local elected members in an attempt to get the problems sorted.

A number of people in Ruscote attended a community forum to raise their concerns last October.   They feel their estate has been neglected by the Council.

One person even said she feels ashamed to invite friends to her house.

Following the forum District Councillors Matt Hodgson, Dr Chukwudi Okeke and Becky Clarke MBE asked council officers to draw up an action plan for improvements.  

Earlier this week residents met with the Assistant Director of Environmental Services at Cherwell District Council, Ed Potter, some of his team and the councillors to take a look at the areas of concern.

From that meeting a wish list of requested improvements was created, including upgrading the playing area by Danesmoor with better facilities, “beautifying” green spaces around the estate and keeping the footpaths and surroundings tidy.

Other requests included tackling the large amount of fly-tipping in Ruscote and working with Sanctuary Housing to remove the garages that have been a hub for antisocial behaviour.   This space could then be used for parking.

In a joint statement, Councillors Hodgson, Okeke and Clarke said: “It was great of Mr Potter to come down to the Ruscote Estate and see for himself what the issues are.   We will continue as we go forward to push for the improvements to the estate that it so badly needs and that residents are crying out for.”
