Uncertain future for village film society

The King’s Sutton Film Society has been losing £100 a month as attendance numbers have fallen
A village film club may have to fold if more people don’t turn up to its monthly screenings.
In its heyday 60 people watched the movies shown by the Kings Sutton Film Society, filling the hall, but in recent months the numbers attending have fallen to less than half of that. Over the last four months of 2023 the club made a loss of £100 for each evening they met.
The club’s organisers say they have enough money to cover the cost of films until May.
The King’s Sutton Film Society dates back a number of years in the village. When the previous organisers stepped down villagers Jacqui Creed and Caroline Wheatley started the current film society in September 2022. Movies are shown for six months of the year during the darker evenings.
Over recent months the society has faced an increasing cost for the films and their licence. At the same time the number of people attending has fallen.
A decision has now been made that May’s screening will be the last unless more people start turning up so the society becomes financially viable.
In February the society will be showing The Great Escaper starring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. The show, on Wednesday February 7 at the Millennium Memorial Hall, starts at 7.30pm.
