Stadium bans on the way to those identified in local derby disorder

Action by the Football Association could include a fine or sanctioning
The Banbury United board of directors will this week be issuing stadium bans and Acceptable Behaviour Contracts to a group of people identified as being involved in disorder during the local derby game between the Puritans and Brackley Town at St James Park on New Year’s Day.
During the game a small group of spectators broke out of the segregated area allocated to Banbury United supporters. They forcibly entered the area designated for Brackley Town supporters. Here disorder and violent behaviour followed.
The club says a thorough investigation has been conducted and a number of individuals who were involved have been identified from images taken by official photographers. Those people will now receive letters through the post, or by hand from the club’s security team when they next visit the ground.
Northamptonshire and Thames Valley Police both have investigations underway.
The Football Association is also investigating the incident and Banbury United’s directors say as part of this they have commented on the security arrangements at St James Park. FA action could include the Club being fined or sanctioned.
A statement from the directors said: “It is not the role of the Club to take a view on who was or wasn’t to blame for this incident. These actions are to enforce repeatedly communicated ground regulations.
“The Club has a duty to promote the safety and security of spectators at home and away matches, to uphold its reputation, control costs and protect its sustainability. We want safe and enjoyable match days for our community-owed Club.
“Many Banbury United supporters have expressed their disappointment at the behaviour witnessed on New Year’s Day and their support of something being done to address individuals who are bringing the Club into disrepute.”
