Significant disruption is expected as wind gusts of 60-70mph arrive
North Oxfordshire is bracing itself for the arrival of Storm Eunice tomorrow.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for our area. That means there is a good chance that flying debris could result in a danger to life, damage to buildings and homes is likely, and power lines could be brought down. The weather warning is in operation from 5am to 9pm.
The latest weather forecast shows winds increasing with some heavy rain forecast through the night. Currently the strongest gusts are likely to arrive around Friday lunchtime with wind speeds of between 60 and 70 miles-per-hour predicted.
Travel problems are likely to affect commuters. Chiltern Railways say that emergency speed restrictions will be in place for much of the day due to the likelihood of trees and debris being blown onto the tracks. They are expecting a significantly reduced timetable to be in operation, with multiple cancellations of services as a direct consequence of trains running at a slower speed than normal. They warn of significantly extended journey times.
Thames Valley Police is asking anyone needing to report a crime, who is not in immediate danger, to do so online to keep their phone lines free for urgent calls.
Oxford Health say their COVID-19 vaccination centre in Oxford will remain closed all day.
