Roof ripped off building at train station
18/02/2022
All train services cancelled as lines blocked
The main train line through Banbury has been blocked after strong winds ripped the roof off the network rail building and threw it across the tracks.
Video footage showed the roof being lifted on the building before it peeled back to be thrown across the line.
Chiltern Railways issued a message at 11.43am saying “Due to an obstruction on the track at Banbury all lines are blocked.”
Subsequently they issued a message saying: “All services on Chiltern Railways are currently cancelled due to severe weather and obstructions on the railway line.”
The building affected sits at the far end of the Banbury station car park on Station Approach. Network Rail have confirmed that no one was hurt during the incident and all staff were successfully evacuated.
