Chacombe student organises fundraiser for local food bank

Izzy’s head teacher says she is very proud
A year 6 pupil at Chacombe Primary Academy organised a fund raising event for her local church food bank, which raised £386 and brought in several bags of food.
Izzy Ewans-Tinsley wanted to bring her house together as a team to win points so they could be named ‘best house’. The enterprising youngster organised a meeting with the other 5 to 11 year-olds in her house. They decided to raise money for a local good cause by completing a sponsored run around the school field.
Fourteen children took part, having gained sponsorship for running for 30 minutes, or up to 20 laps. Some were so enthusiastic they continued well after they had completed the challenge!
Yesterday morning Izzy and her friend Florence Sabin presented the food and money to Father Nick Leggett and Rose Steele from Chacombe Food Bank.
Natalie Coates, Chacombe Primary Academy’s Head Teacher, praised Izzy for achieving her goal. She said: “The most beautiful thing to see was when she was out there running and looking around thinking ‘we’ve done this and look at what we’ve raised’.
“The school as a whole are very much like this: they’re very community orientated. The children weren’t told to raise money for charity, that’s just what they wanted to do. They wanted to do something for other people.
“It makes me think that’s why we’re here. These children are going to become beautiful citizens as they grow up and this is what they think is important. I am a very proud head teacher.”
