48 boxes of eggs were found in the back of her car in Buckingham
Banbury Police were scrambled to the scene of an egg theft at Banbury Gateway yesterday.
A female visitor to Marks and Spencers had hatched a plan to lay her hands on 48 boxes, but decided to leave without paying.
The store manager immediately cracked on calling the police.
Sgt Nash and PC Khan from Banbury’s Neighbourhood Policing Team tracked down the female, finally locating her vehicle in Buckingham. She was found to have items from other stores in addition to the eggs.
The female was arrested and charged with two counts of theft and driving offences. The stolen items were returned to the relevant stores.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team recently undertook special action to tackle retail crime in Banbury. This resulted in a number of people being caught shoplifting.
They continue to monitor the town centre and retail parks with the aim of deterring or convicting offenders and provide visible reassurance to retail staff.
