MP sees work completed in Bloxham church’s renovation project
23/04/2024
The first phase of work was recently completed
Banbury’s MP, Victoria Prentis, has visited Bloxham Church to see the work completed so far at the end of the first part of a three-phase renovation project.
The West End of St Mary’s now has a new kitchen, bathrooms, a modern heating system, a state-of-the-art live streaming system and an updated vestry.
The ambitious £1.2m project to transform the church was granted the equivalent of planning permission by the Chancellor of the Diocesan Advisory Committee in December 2021.
That enabled the project team to apply for grants which were dependant on the permission being in place.
The plan aims to upgrade the building whilst protecting the Grade 1 listed Medieval church, large parts of which date back to the 14th century.
Following her visit Mrs Prentis said: “St. Mary’s is a cornerstone in our community, busy not only with worship services but also weddings and funerals. The upgrades will be brilliant to ensure that the church can thrive as a hub for social opportunities.”
