Resident hopes those responsible will feel guilty for missed chance to effect meaningful benefit
The man in charge of roads in Oxfordshire has defended his administration’s record running the County Council.
Andrew Gant, who’s the Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport Management, was speaking as he approved the latest 20mph zone in our area.
Roads through Steeple Aston will now be reduced to the lower limit.
The village’s Parish Council were supportive of the move but concerned about the number of signs that the County Council planned to put up. Councillor Gant noted this was prescribed in national guidance where it stated that repeater signs should appear every 250 metres.
The highways boss then took issue with a comment from one local resident who objected to having 20 mph limits implemented. Their response concluded: “I live in hope that one day those responsible for this will look back and feel guilty that they missed their chance to effect meaningful benefit for the people of the county [in order to] to push this agenda.”
Councillor Gant responded: “I think I can say with some confidence that I can already look back on the policies and achievements of this administration with pride rather than guilt.
“The meaningful change and meaningful benefit for the people of the county is what it’s all about and we have delivered very significantly on that and will continue to do so.”
