Heavy rain affects buses, roads and rivers
22/05/2024
Drier conditions will move in by the end of the day
Banbury’s bus users are amongst those affected by the heavy rain our area has experienced over the last few hours.
Flooding at Banbury Bus Station has forced Stagecoach to move its service stops out onto Bridge Street. The operator says the bus station will be out of use for the rest of the day.
Services are expected to run to the normal timetable, although delays can be expected.
Elsewhere the volume of rain to hit our area has left some town centre roads partially submerged, with Lower Cherwell Street past the Morrison’s Petrol Station noted as one route affected.
The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for areas along the Sor and Bloxham Brooks from Horley and Bloxham to Adderbury. They say that flooding of low lying land and roads is imminent, although property flooding isn’t expected.
Areas around the River Great Ouse from Brackley to Haversham are also at risk.
The Met Office is predicting that skies should brighten through the remainder of today, although more showers are likely. Drier conditions are likely from tomorrow.
