Volunteer Fair hopes to find willing hands to help local organisations
06/06/2024
“volunteers make such a phenomenal difference to these organisations”
This week is Volunteers Week and willing volunteers and those who are looking for an opportunity to give back to their community can take advantage of a Volunteer Fair which is running at the Royal Voluntary Service’s Cornhill Centre tomorrow (Friday).
Fifteen organisations will be represented at the event, including St John Ambulance, Medical Detection Dogs, Refugee Education UK and Banbury Talking Newspapers.
Its been organised by the Royal Voluntary Service and Volunteer Connect. People can drop-in any time between 10am and 2pm to find out about the roles available and to see if they can find a fit for their availability and their own goals.
Keith Davies from Volunteer Connect believes there are a number of benefits to volunteering. He said: “It’s meeting people and that sense of giving back to the community – that’s another pretty big factor.”
Keith believes all the groups attending the Volunteer Fair will be very grateful for any additional help. He said: “Volunteers are a reducing pool – every national statistic points to that. There’s less volunteers about. You wouldn’t ever go to a meeting with voluntary organisations and have everyone stick their hand up and say they were fine for volunteers.
“It really is something that’s needed and volunteers make such a phenomenal difference to these organisations.”
