D-Day 80th Anniversary in Brackley
07/06/2024
The town’s beacon was lit at 9.15pm along with others across the country
Hundreds of people – young and old – joined Brackley Town Mayor Elaine Wiltshire and members of the Royal British Legion on Thursday evening to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. A large contingent from the town’s Scout Groups also joined in with the event.
A short Act of Remembrance and Kohima was observed at the War Memorial outside Brackley Town Hall before Standard Bearers led a long parade up the hill to Town Park.
Here, people listened to the President of Brackley Royal British Legion, Caryl Billingham MBE, reading the 80th anniversary International Tribute, before the beacon was lit at 9.15pm – the same time as other beacons around the country were being lit.
Two minutes silence to remember the fallen and the courage of those taking part in the D-Day landings was followed by the National Anthem.
